The dollar isn't going as far anymore
This Economy IS Local.
Across District 4, families are feeling the pressure of a rising cost of living. Groceries cost more, housing costs more, and everyday expenses keep climbing. While a lot of those pressures are driven by national trends, that doesn’t mean local government is off the hook. In many ways, the decisions made at the local level are the ones people feel most directly, every single day.
Property taxes, fees, utility costs, and how we manage growth all play a real role in what it costs to live here. When those decisions aren’t handled carefully, they add up fast. A tax increase, a poorly planned development that strains infrastructure, or rising service costs all end up in the same place - the household budget. That’s why local leadership matters so much when it comes to affordability.
We need to be disciplined about how we manage taxpayer dollars, but we also need to be forward-thinking. Planning for the future means recognizing that smart, targeted investments today can prevent bigger costs tomorrow. Whether it’s maintaining roads before they fail, improving infrastructure ahead of demand, or making strategic upgrades that support long-term growth, the right small investments now can become major assets for the community down the line.
At the same time, we can’t ignore the importance of access to good jobs. A strong local economy helps offset rising costs, but it has to be done the right way. Growth should create opportunity without driving up housing costs or overwhelming infrastructure. That balance is critical if we want District 4 to remain a place where people can afford to live, not just work.
We may not control national inflation, but we do control how responsibly we govern at the local level. And for most families, that’s what matters most. Smart, disciplined, and forward-looking leadership can either ease the burden or make it worse. I believe it’s our responsibility to make decisions that protect affordability, respect taxpayers, and keep District 4 a place people can continue to call home.
